Logo design for start up company in the Bay Area. Art direction, Design, Layout, Prepress. Tools: Adobe Creative Suite: Quark Xpress, Photoshop, Illustrator. Font family: Goudy

The Client |

Savage International was a start up firm based in San Jose, California. Their specialty was the importation and distribution of various products including a new fishing chum apparatus, and energy saving solutions.

The Solution |

The principals at the company wanted  a sword in the logo. Being an international company, I mentioned that the sword does have positive connotations throughout the world. Savage International wanted the following to be presented in the logo:

  • Solidarity
  • Clarity
  • Power
  • Honor
  • Force

I illustrated a series of sword concepts including fully rendered 3D swords and two-dimensional swords. In the end, two concepts were chosen: a fully rendered version would serve as the main logo entry and a 2-D black and white version would be used on general correspondence where color usage was not necessary. A subsidiary company was created for the fishing supplies arm of the company. Hammerhead with created with a silhouette of a hammerhead shark swimming and could be said to be shot from above or below the fish. A third division, Savage Environmental Systems, used the same treatment as Savage International with a encircled recycle symbol added.
